The Emerging Young Leader Award is designed to recognize established and future leaders among recent William Penn University alumni. Standards for recognition include one or more of the following: demonstrated leadership capability, substantial indication of a commitment to service of others, demonstration of potential for leadership/distinction in the long term, and a substantial commitment to William Penn University and its mission. The award is open to all alumni who are within their first 10 years of graduating from William Penn University. This award was established, and the first award recipient was in 2016.
Alexis Guimaraes, William Penn University Class of 2020, knows what it means to garner education, experience and achievements in her chosen field. She credits many of her current successes to her experiences at William Penn. Guimaraes graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in psychology and sport management. While at Penn, she maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA and made the President’s List. She was also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society.
During her undergraduate years she was a 4-time All-Conference member of the women’s golf team, as well as a part of three conference championships. A member of the Lambda Delta Nu sorority, she served as Vice President her senior year. Her education did not stop with her BA degree, she went on to pursue her Master of Sport Management at William Penn. While working on her master’s degree she served as a graduate assistant for the William Penn Athletics Department as well as being the Assistant Coach for women’s golf.
Currently employed by Callaway Golf, Guimaraes was recently promoted to Regional Accounts Representative. Her role involves supporting territory representatives, accounts, and professional staffers from multiple territories across the country, as well as assisting with growing Callaway’s business at various accounts. She also serves on Callaway’s Women with Drive Council which strives to increase the accessibility and visibility of women’s golf. Recently, the company hosted the ForeHire Women Who Want to Work in Golf Summit. Guimaraes was on a panel of women in the company who spoke regarding their experiences within the industry.
