William Penn University Alumni Recognized by Oskaloosa Chamber
05/19/2017
The Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group’s 136th Annual Banquet was recently held on William Penn University’s Oskaloosa campus in the Dana M. Atkins Memorial Union. More than 150 community members turned out to the event to recognize businesses, organizations, and individuals that have helped to improve and strengthen the community throughout 2016. During the banquet, Oskaloosa Mayor David Krutzfeldt and Mahaska County Supervisor Willie Van Weelden presented Greg Hafner (’73) and Karen Hafner with an award for Citizens of the Year. Both Greg and Karen have recently announced retirement from their current positions — Greg as the William Penn University Athletic Director as well as Vice President for Operations and Karen as Executive Director of Oskaloosa Main Street.
Mayor Krutzfeldt read off an accomplished resume for both Greg and Karen to attendees, focusing on their inspiring athletics careers and achievements, as well as the effect they’ve both had on the community.
Alum Bruce Peiffer (’85) was also recognized during the banquet and awarded Educator of the Year. Peiffer serves as Band Instructor at North Mahaska Schools and also serves as Director of the Oskaloosa Municipal Band.
