On April 15th 2021, William Penn Industrial Technology area hosted the Mahaska County 4-H Maker Club to teach young students about the Technological Design Process. Students were faced with a challenge to design and develop the farthest shooting compressed air rocket. After the first launch, students were able to observe which designs and variables created the longest flying rockets, rockets with the longest air time, and accuracy. As part of the technological design process, students then improved their rocket design for a more successful second launch.
“I was super proud of these youngsters. You could tell that they were really watching and studying each rocket that was launched and they all had much better performing rockets during the second launch. Most importantly, we had a great time while we were learning! I really enjoy supporting our young students within the community,” said James Smith Industrial Technology Instructor.
