Nasear Cumberbatch ’27
Hometown: Saint Petersburg, Florida
Major: Business Management

Meet Nasear Cumberbatch, a driven business management major from Saint Petersburg, Florida, with roots in London. A proud member of the class of 2027, Nasear is not only a wide receiver for the William Penn football team but also the founder of Exquisite Baggerz, a thriving clothing brand spanning 23 states. Academically, he has excelled since elementary school, maintaining honor roll status and graduating high school with a 4.1 GPA. His dedication continues at William Penn, where he has achieved straight A’s since enrolling. His athletic journey began with soccer in second grade, later expanding to football and track, shaping him into a versatile and committed individual.

Outside of academics and sports, Nasear enjoys lifting weights, honing his football skills, and participating in basketball open runs. He finds inspiration in nature and art, often visiting museums, admiring graffiti, and capturing stunning sky and nature photos. Back home, he loves spending time at the beach or pool and enjoys bowling. His passion for fashion led to the creation of his clothing brand, a natural extension of his love for graphic tees and exclusive sneakers.

Nasear chose William Penn University for its affordable tuition, strong football program, and supportive coaching staff, particularly his recruiting coach, Coach Burns. The indoor turf and modern facilities also played a role in his decision. Despite the challenges of transitioning from bustling Florida to quiet Oskaloosa, Iowa, Nasear has embraced the opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Academically, Nasear thrives, frequently making the President’s List and building strong relationships with his professors. He highlights Darrell Mackaig and Ms. Jihna Jenkins as standout mentors, noting their warmth and support. “Darrell was welcoming from day one, and Ms. Jihna reminds me of my mom in many ways. Their encouragement has made a lasting impact on me.” He also appreciates the close-knit environment at William Penn, saying, “The professors here genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed. Even if I’m no longer in their class, they still check in with me, and that’s something I’ll never take for granted.”

Campus life for Nasear is about community. He values the bonds he has formed with teammates and classmates and enjoys attending basketball and volleyball games. He describes the campus as a welcoming space with friendly people and beautiful surroundings.

Looking ahead, Nasear envisions a future in business management, with hopes of expanding his clothing brand and exploring real estate ventures. While he still has time at William Penn, he already knows he will miss the relationships he has built and the camaraderie of football practices.

When asked for advice for incoming students, Nasear encourages them to stay active, attend events, and cherish their time at William Penn. His experience has been transformative, and he sums it up perfectly: “God put me here for a reason, and I know my granddaddy is looking down at me proud. I’m going to make the most of it.”
